History

Günther Grzimek

The chair was founded in 1956 as "Lehrstuhl für Garten- und Landschaftsgestaltung" introducing the study program "Garten- und Landschaftsplanung" (Garden- and Landscape Planning). The first professor since 1972 was garden architect Professor Ludwig Schreiber (*1903; †1976). Since 1952 he was honorary professor for garden architecture at the TH Aachen before he was called to the Technical University Munich.

In 1972 Professor Günther Grzimek (*1915; †1996), formerly teaching "Landeskultur" (landscape culture) in Kassel at the school of art, was appointed as full professor and renamed the chair to  "Lehrstuhl und Institut für Landschaftsarchitektur" (Chair and Institute for Landscape Architecture). Günther Grzimek was retired in 1981.

Peter Latz

In 1983 Professor Peter Latz (*1939) started working as full professor at the "Lehrstuhl für Landschaftsarchitektur und Planung" (Chair for Landscape Architecture and Planning) at the Technical University Munich. Before, since 1973 he was professor for Landscape Architecture at the Gesamthochschule Kassel. Peter Latz was retired in Munich on March 31st 2008 and was honoured as "Emeritus of Excellence" by the TUM.

On April 1st 2009 Professor Dr. sc. ETH Zürich Udo Weilacher (*1963) was appointed as new professor (Ordinarius) for Landscape Architecture and Industrial Landscape. Weilacher was Professor for Landscape Architecture and Design at the Leibniz University Hannover between 2002 and 2009 and was asked by the Technische University Munich to reinforce the Landscape Architecture program at the Department of Architecture.
